Meet Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Roxanne Cheek
With over 20 years of experience in various educational settings, Superintendent Cheek has dedicated her career to cultivating an environment that prioritizes not only academic excellence but also spiritual growth, guided by the principle found in Colossians 3:23, which encourages us to “work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
Superintendent Cheek’s extensive experience includes leading schools representative of grade levels from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. She has worked in both urban and suburban districts, including Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Dallas ISD, and Richardson ISD. Mrs. Cheek has a vast experience in serving the needs of all students within her schools, spearheading the implementation of many instructional programs such as, International Baccalaureate Programme, Positive Approaches to Student Success (PASS) Program, designed for students with significant behavioral and emotional challenges, Talented and Gifted programs and Take Flight Dyslexia Therapy. In her role at SJCA, Superintendent Cheek prioritizes cultivating a culture that celebrates students’ attempts and successes, frames failure as an opportunity for growth, reaffirms the value of each student as an image bearer of God, and reminds students that they are loved for who they are and not how they perform.
As a testament to Mrs. Cheek’s commitment to excellence and her ability to lead schools to remarkable improvements in student outcomes and positive school culture, she was honored to receive the Principal of the Year award in 2017 for the Woodrow Wilson Feeder Pattern. Additionally, Mrs. Cheek was selected as a 100 Top Texas Principals to participate in Harvard Graduate School of Education’s The Art of Leadership Seminar at the Principal Center. Superintendent Cheek pursues excellence in the spirit of Matthew 5:16, which reminds us to “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.”
Mrs. Cheek earned her Master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of North Texas and her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University. She holds a Head of School certification from SJCA's accrediting body, Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and the International Baccalaureate Programme reflecting her commitment to providing a comprehensive and world-class education that prepares students for God’s calling on their lives.
Superintendent Cheek believes that education is a sacred partnership between home, school, and the community, in order for SJCA students to be equipped to do the good works God has prepared for them. (Ephesians 2:10) Her faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of her leadership philosophy, guiding her in leading out SJCA’s mission to, “intentionally guides the faith formation of our scholars ensuring their readiness for both the future and eternity through distinguished, Christ-centered academics through partnering with parents and the church.”
